The Importance of Diligence (With Planning)
We’ve been discussing planning, but Scripture tells us that there is another very important element if financial prosperity is to happen: diligence.
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” - Proverbs 21:5
The Hebrew word for “diligent” can also have the meaning of “to dig”. This, to me, implies persistence and consistency. So it is not only important to have plans (and goals), but we also need to be “digging”…You dig? (I couldn’t resist…LOL!) In other words, we have to put in the work! I know you may not have ever done this, but many times I have had “grand plans” but failed to be diligent. And what happened? No “profit”.
“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” - Proverbs 6:6-8
I believe that one of the reasons the ant is cited here in Scripture is as an example of diligence that carries out God’s “plans” (though they be innate) and “turns a profit”. In another verse, ants are even called “wise”:
“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;” - Proverbs 30:24-25
